2. Parents should limit the amount of television their children watch.

5. I discuss with my parent(s) the difference between what is real and what is pretend in stories that are on television and in the movies.
6. My parent(s) know the words of the music and rap that I listen to.
7. My parent(s) permit me to listen to only certain kinds of music/rap.
8. My parent(s) know who my friends are.
9. My parent(s) like my friends.
10. My parent(s) permit me to be friends with any one I choose.

Point values are assigned as follows:
Agree a lot = 4
Agree a little = 3
Disagree a little = 2
Disagree a lot= 1
Point values are assigned as indicated above‚ with item 10 reverse coded. Scores are derived by summing the point values of the responses from a participant and dividing the total by the number of responses. Blankitems are not counted in the number of responses. Higher mean scores indicate higher levels of parentalinvolvement with and control over student’s exposure to television‚ music‚ and friends. Lower mean scoresindicate lower levels of parental involvement or control.
