DESCRIPTION
These items measure motivation to achieve future outcomes associated with job‚ family‚ and community. Youths are asked to indicate the extent to which each statement reflects their current feelings. This may be a useful tool for programs that try to help youth set goals or work on intrinsic motivation.

AGE RANGE
Middle and high school age youth. Has been used in previous research with African-American males aged 12-16.
HOW TO ADMINISTER AND SCORE
Pencil and paper self-report. Questions rated on a 5 point scale from “Very important” to “Not at all important.” Point values are assigned as follows:
· Very important = 5
· Quite important = 4
· Somewhat important = 3
· Not too important = 2
· Not at all important = 1
Point values are summed for each respondent and divided by the number of items. The intended range of scores is 1-5‚ with a higher score indicating greater motivation to achieve in conventional areas (home‚ school‚ community).

Scoring and Analysis
Point values are assigned as follows:
Very important = 5
Quite important = 4
Somewhat important = 3
Not too important = 2
Not at all important = 1
